Well, I'm impressed!

I quite honestly don't know if I've heard this song before or not - I've never been too good with song titles. In any case, I was very impressed with how everything turned out. The one issue I have is probably something that would bug only me - I personally believe that the drums were not as powerful as they could have been. They sounded fantastic, but I think that they could have been much more explosive. However, that's just pure nitpicking on my part. Great job, dude!

Mrmilkcarton responds:

Probably right.

Not gonna lie... Ouch

I really liked this one until the piano came in - far too many notes were completely off key on the piano. Despite that, the piano melody has a unique dissonance to it - it would have worked better if the chord progression on the strings was a little different. The little *thump* *thump* *thumpclapclap* would actually have been a semi-decent beat, had better samples been used. I can also picture a nice amount of reverb making them better. You've got a lot of practicing to do, but you can definitely go somewhere with this.

Hm....

This is definitely an amateurish ambient song - the plink synth is far too sharp and loud as compared to the rest of the track. The kick seemed unnecessary, as all that it does is jump around with no extra backbeats to help balance it out. I really like the ambient part, though. I don't know if you used any preset synths for the ambient sounds, but I really liked what you did with them. That, I think, is what you are best at - ambient composition. There ain't nothing wrong with soft music, but it definitely takes a lot of work trying to make some. To this day, I still have a bit of trouble with making ambient tracks. There are a few parts where you used the wrong notes, but I think that you have a fair amount of potential - I can already hear your own style in this track. My biggest piece of advice is to PRACTICE - Don't give up. Push buttons, play with sounds, listen to what notes sound good and what ones don't mix at all, practice blending those synths!

Not too shabby.

This is definitely good dude, I really enjoyed it. However, it doesn't really seem to be as much of a remix as it is a remastered version. I like the little speed ups that occur, that was a nice touch... It does get a tad repetitive towards the end.. There were wAAYY too many FL presets for my liking, but that's pure nit picking. I'm not gonna lie, your remixing skill needs work. This didn't have that much in it that was different from the original other than the tempo changes, classic sonic sounds, and maybe a few extra arps in the background. However, I think you have great potential. My biggest advice is try making the song YOURS - remix it so that it would come out the way YOU want it to be. Also, practice creating your own synths. Tweak knobs, change oscillators, mess around until you find a sound that you like! Keep at it!

*Applauds your honesty*

You know, as critical as that was, I've gotta agree with a lot of that. At the time I made this, I was running off of the demo version of FL Studio. I couldn't work on songs for more than an hour or two because I couldn't save my tracks. I've registered now, and I'm composing my own songs as I'm writing this. However, I did put a lot more work into this than I have with past remixes, and If you compare it to the original track side-by-side, It really does sound quite a bit different.

Hmm!

Interesting.... This would make an excellent loop for a simple cartoon or game. It sounds like it'd be good for an opening screen. It's short, simple, and moderately repetitive, but it's oddly catchy. I found myself bebopping around while listening to it. I'd say that it's pretty good, especially for a first submission. I don't know if you EQ'd anything in this, but it all sounds nice, clear, and well mastered. Good job Viper, I think you might have some potential.

Viperodriguez responds:

Thanks for the comment. I didn't think it was bad either for being done on grandma proof software. When I was playing it on a piano I thought it was too bright and happy to expand into a song-I didn't have lyrics that could match the mood. It is also very much an experiment in syncopation, I really like writing things on the up-beats. As for EQ'ing, I arranged it with GarageBand, so I don't know if that's even a feature on the software. I did actually adjust the volume channels. Again thanks for commenting.

Beautiful piece, my friend.

Really beautiful, that's the only word for it. It's totally quiet and soft, but I can hear the massive amount of work and quality you've put into it, especially on the drums. Brilliant job on the drums, they're very well made. And only 256mb of RAM? Man, that sucks. I might can give you some, I've got a lot of spares.

WHY DOES IT HAVE TO BE SO SHORT!?

Freakin' amazing dude, I love it! But why the hell does it have to be so short!? that's the only thing I don't like about it, is the length. Everything else is absolutely fantastic, great job dude!

Finally, something new!

Excellent man, really excellent! I can hear the Alice Deejay song in there, as well as a few melodies I don't know (which I'm guessing are the melodies for Soldiers Story?). This is definitely not what I expected though. The fact that it has resident evil vocals and material in it sounds kinda... well, odd. I was expecting something dark and intense because of the name, not a remix of an Alice Deejay song. Still very enjoyable, but I must say that I was a little dissapointed that it wasn't something dark. Great job nonetheless!

SkyMarshall responds:

Thanks for yet another excellent review man:) There is most def noticable amounts of Alice Deejay in there, and yes - there is a fair amount of my own original "Soldier's Story". I wont upload that one, since it is a FastTracker 2.08 production, and not good enough to spread on this site. At least the audio quality is not up to it. Anyway, I agree it got a little to happy for the Resident Evil theme - but I think it worked out okay enough. But yes, when you mention it - I kinda wish I had gone for a more fitting darker theme. But maybe next time, plenty of dark stuff out there to inspire another go at the whole thing. Maybe the next RE-game gets me going once again.

Glad you like it, thanks a bunchie lad :)

NO way.

Being a HUGE fan of boss music, I absolutely love this! The feeling is perfectly stressed and tense, yet jamming at the same time. It makes me think that it'd be in a Final Fantasy game, or perhaps even in a Ace Combat style flight simulator boss fight. Just great man, 10!

NemesisTheory responds:

Also into bossmusic? Awesome! All the more reason for me to be happy that you like it XD
I'm glad you liked it :D

A Fantastic beat!

A beautiful intro, a brilliantly cool sounding beat, a beautiful melodie.... This song is just beautiful! However, I found that it was fairly lacking in the bass section (this is my lead complaint for many songs on newgrounds... I know it gets old after awhile, but I'm a sucker for bass)... I couldn't hear any noticeable bass sounds. It was fairly empty in that sense. However, I must say that absolutely everything else in this track freakin' rocks! Nice job dude!

GronmonSE responds:

Ugh, I always forget the bass. I just have no decent bass synths or instruments for that matter. I'll try to remember that next time :D

Thanks for the review.
